Medium: Adobe INDESIGN and illustrator // Role: Designer, illustrator

I worked with Laura Cashman PhD of the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge and Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre to bring her research to life outside of the academic scope and into a broader audience for impact. Her multi-year study focused on the effects of parental involvement in low-achieving children's schooling and learning in rural India. Laura brought me on board to consider how to visually portray the most important themes of her statistical findings so that it could help influence policy solutions in the Uttar Pradesh region of India.

The resulting zine illustrates the research in a way that is succinct, direct, and digestible, with illustrations and type pairings that are contemporary and eye catching. The publication takes the reader on a journey through infographics, visually compelling facts, and storytelling. I created a visual emphasis on the low-lift actions that can be taken at the community level and policy level to increase student success with parental involvement. By distilling the data into a compelling, action-oriented narrative that is easy for anyone to understand, the research becomes directly influential.

In the final version, I worked with translators to ensure the content would be properly articulated to both English-speaking and Hindi-speaking populations. The zine features both English and Hindi typesetting. I conceived the illustration style through experiments with paint, ink and collage in an effort to create textures and colors reminiscent of the vibrant colors and textiles that the Uttar Pradesh region is known for.
